Walkways and driveways

As construction continues on the Plaza Building and Herbert-Herman Cancer Center, the glass walkway that will connect to the Sparrow Professional Building is now framed and enclosed. Construction on the circular drive off of Michigan Avenue is also underway.  We thank all of our Patients, Caregivers, Visitors and Guests for your patience during this time when access to the Professional Building Parking ramp is periodically re-routed to accommodate the work. As weather permits, more detailed work on the W3 Plaza, the central courtyard, will get underway.

Transforming Michigan Avenue

Transforming Michigan Avenue

As of the end of July, the glass front has been gradually going into place on the face of the new Plaza Building, home to the Herbert-Herman Cancer Center, and construction has started on the pedestrian bridge that will connect the Plaza to the Sparrow Professional Building.  Construction started just over one year ago.  Track the progress through The Christman Company’s webcam, and watch a timelapse from the very beginning!

Signature beam goes into place

The new Herbert-Herman Cancer Center, a keystone in Sparrow’s commitment to caring for our community, hit another milestone with the placement of the signature beam, reflecting the collaboration between Caregivers, Patients, Donors, and community members to transform healthcare for our region.

A group of special guests, donors, Physicians, Cancer Center Patients and Caregivers gathered recently to sign on to a piece of history.

After brief remarks from James and Susan Herman, attendees lined up to sign the beam or add a personal message.

The naming of the Herbert-Herman Cancer Center facility recognizes a combined $2.5- million philanthropic gift from James and Judith Herbert of Lansing, and James and Susan Herman of East Lansing. James Herman, M.D., is the Medical Director of the Sparrow Cancer Center.

Support from our region and our Caregivers is what allows us to transform health care, expanding and improving our services to bring you quality, compassionate care, in a healthy, healing environment.

This beam, filled with signatures from Caregivers, Patients, Donors, and community members, is a reflection of that collaboration and will be a permanent piece of the Herbert-Herman Cancer Center, opening early summer of 2017.

Laying the foundation for a healthy future

With every passing day big changes are apparent in the construction on the main campus along Michigan Avenue.  Initial site prep has been completed and the crews have started work to lay the foundations for the new Sparrow Plaza and Herbert-Herman Cancer Center.

Across the street, they are well underway with the foundation for the new Sparrow Gathering Place too!
