In the works for years, Sparrow unveiled its dazzling new modern and upscale dining area on Wednesday, July 20 in a special ceremony and open house.
The Gathering Place at Sparrow features bright open spaces and a wall of glass with a view along Michigan Avenue. It showcases our effort to transform facilities to meet the expectations of our Patients, Visitors, Physicians and Caregivers for quality care in a healing environment. It officially opened to the public, Thursday, July 21.

Community celebrates opening of the Gathering Place at Sparrow
We’re moving closer every day to opening the Gathering Place inside Sparrow Hospital. The modern and upscale dining area is helping transform Michigan Avenue in Lansing.
Recently the installation of the living wall started. Fifty boxes of plants arrived and the greenery will soon go up. This is a gift from the Volunteers of the Sparrow Guild in honor of their 90th anniversary. Thank you!
We’re very excited to show you what it looks like when finished. Stay tuned!
On Wednesday, Jan. 20, workers placed the panes of glass that will create a bright, open view of Michigan Avenue for guests to enjoy while they relax and dine on fresh, quality cuisine from a mix of new food stations. With only a few months left things are coming along nicely!
On Thursday, Sept. 24, the final beam, signed by Caregivers, Patients and Visitors, topped out the steel framing for the new Sparrow Gathering Place. A special thanks to Clark Construction Company, Construction Managers for the Gathering Place Project, for capturing the moment!
Sparrow Caregivers recently had the chance to leave their mark on The Gathering Place – a modern and upscale dining area on the main campus of Sparrow Hospital – currently under construction.
Caregivers were given the opportunity to sign their name to the final beam to be placed.
Support from our region and our Caregivers is what allows us to transform health care, expanding and improving our services to bring you quality, compassionate care, in a healthy, healing environment.
Construction is expected to be complete by 2016.
Sparrow has undertaken a significant investment in the community, more than $285 million in construction and information technology projects over a five-year period, as we continue to transform care, implement best practices, and deliver nationally recognized care.
With every passing day big changes are apparent in the construction on the main campus along Michigan Avenue. Initial site prep has been completed and the crews have started work to lay the foundations for the new Sparrow Plaza and Herbert-Herman Cancer Center.
Across the street, they are well underway with the foundation for the new Sparrow Gathering Place too!
The first visible signs of construction on the new Sparrow Gathering Place have appeared.
Over the last couple of weeks interior demolition and renovations have started as we prepare for the new location of the Sparrow Gift shop. More visible work has begun outside along Michigan Avenue where utility relocation is underway in preparation for basement excavation which will begin in early June. Stay tuned!
